March 3, 2024 - Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, Miami, FL to Hollover Inlet, Miami, FL

 Sunday

It is a bit cloudy today, but no rain yet.  We decided to go on a walk on a nature trail on the other side of where we are anchored.  The 62' catamaran was extremely close to us this morning, and it made Kip very nervous.

Before I continue, I have to tell you that Miami is NOT my favorite place.  Why?  Here's why:

  • When people talk, they don't talk like this - THEY TALK LIKE THISNo matter what time of day or night.
  • All of the boats play techno-music, and it is LOUD JUST LIKE THEY TALK.
  • Bill Baggs Park is nice, but a dog barked for hours while running around the outside of the boat, and the owner was in the boat.
  • Big boats do not care if we are smaller, they go by us and do not slow down, causing us to flop all over the place in their wake.
Even with ear plugs and a blanket wrapped around my head, I still could hear it.  Anyway, back to today's adventures!

We dinghied into shore and walked the nature trail to the point.  On the way back, there were two directions we could go, so we went left thinking the trail was in a circle and we would end up where we started.  That was not the case.

We walked for quite a while and ended up at a dead end.  So, we turned around and went back the way we just came.  I picked up a stick because the trail had signs that crocodiles were there.  I know, a stick isn't any help, but it made me feel better.

We took the main paved trail to the beach and walked until we got to the lighthouse.  We then cut over and walked down the front of the Cove, back to the boat.  We decided we were going to leave this area, so we took off.

We ended up going to Hollover Inlet in North Miami.  We stayed here when we were traveling south.  There had to have been over 500 boats anchored out in this area.  We anchored near the channel and watched the boats go by.  It began to get dark, so we moved back into the bay past the Inlet so we would have less wind.

We attempted to go on a dingy ride (but it started raining again), had dinner, and tucked into the boat for the rest of the night.
