February 12, 2024 - Key Largo, Floriday Keys to Marathon, Florida Keys

 Monday

We left Key Largo around 7:00 a.m.

All along our route today we saw tons of crab pots.  These pots are all different colors so people can tell which ones are theirs.  All we see on the water is a round, floating ball.  Attached to the ball is a trap.  Boaters need to avoid going over these or they may find themselves caught in the trap line below.

I was enjoying myself on the back deck while Kip drove.

We eventually saw this sign telling us we were now in the Everglades.

Much of our trip was on open water, but there were green and red markers on occasion.

I gave Kip a break from driving so he sat on the bow and relaxed for a bit.  We did go through a few narrow canals with mangroves on each side.

The mooring ball field we are planning on staying in has over 250 mooring balls available.  We called, and they didn't have any open balls.  We had to anchor just outside of the mooring balls instead.  We took our dinghy to the office area, and we were charged $107 to anchor until Thursday morning, use the bath/shower area, and dock our dinghy on the dinghy dock!  We did, however, find out a pump out is included AND we got an insulated bag for FREE!  😉

We sat on the back deck for a while and then Kip grilled - we had brats, corn, chips, and pineapple for supper.

The saltwater spray left a layer of salt all over the boat.  The windows are hard to see out of!

We are both tired, so we tucked in early.  Not sure what happened to Nebo today, but our charting for our trip today is not correct.

  1. What is an insulated bag for? Beautiful views of the sky! Glad you are able to use the grill and skip the Spaghetti-Os!

    1. Well, it is good if you are out on a day trip on a small boat (which we don’t do) or use it to get groceries…. Who knows! 😀
