February 10, 2024 - North Miami, Florida to Elliott's Key, Florida Keys, Florida

 Saturday

We left North Miami slightly before 7:00 a.m. hoping to avoid any big boats traveling through Miami.

We went under several tall bridges and a couple of shorter bridges under 12' that we had to get a lift to get through.   We saw many dolphins!

Here we are heading toward Miami.

We drove by the location of the Miami Boat Show, and it looks like they are setting things up to be ready for this week.  A brand new 50' boat in front of us was traveling with only one engine - hopefully they fix it before someone buys it!

It is amazing how many huge boats and cruise ships are in Miami.

We got through Miami without any issues and entered the Biscayne Bay.  This is kind of eerie because you really can't see much except water and an occasional red or green buoy/marker.

This picture shows Miami in the background as we are going through Biscayne Bay.  Notice the color of the water!  Beautiful!

The waves are about 3', and the splashes were constant.

We arrived at Elliot Key and found many open slips.

We ventured off on a trail and ended up by the ocean on the other side.  The shore was kind of dirty and grungy, so we didn't go in.  So far, no bugs.

We caught this picture of a manatee that was going through the docks.  It was a big one!

We sat outside and read for a while, then we showered (cold water, no hot water in the restrooms).  We went back to sitting in our chairs outside, but the no see ums were eating us alive.  So, instead of chicken tenders for supper we had insta-food:  mac and cheese and SpaghettiOs with meatballs!

We played two-person spades and relaxed for the rest of the night.
