November 15, 2022

Sanroc Cay Marina, Orange Beach, Alabama

It rained overnight and today's high is supposed to be 72 degrees.  Kip washed the boat (it is amazing how saltwater sticks to boats).  We haven't seen many people here - it is kind of deserted due to the weather.

We decided to put the dinghy into the water and take it for a test drive.  That sounds easy enough, but the docks here are very high, and Kip had to lift an 80-pound motor into a dinghy.  We were glad when we got done - nothing bad happened and we didn't end up in the drink.  The new motor works great!  The boat looks much better with the dinghy and bikes off of it.  We can actually walk or sit on the back deck now.

We walked to the beach to sit, read and relax.  On the way there, we noticed a swimming pool handrail up on an embankment.  We walked up the hill and there was an old swimming pool, covered in sand, on top of the hill.  You can even still see the No Diving sign.  We assumed it was left after a storm, but we don't know for sure.

The weather advisory was saying that there is a warning for small crafts and that the waves are 4-6 feet.  They weren't kidding.  We couldn't believe how big and loud they were.  We had shorts and t-shirts on, but as the day went on, the colder and windier it got.

Only really small shells here - the bigger ones are being smashed by the waves.  I liked this one, but there was still a "critter" in it, so I put it back in the water.

Back to the boat we go, had a snack, and took a nap.  Kip got up and went to the gas station for Diet Coke.  We aren't hungry, so we are skipping supper.  A couple walked by, and the lady said "Oh, what a cute boat."  Kip said "Thanks" and then he turned to me and said, "I should have told her it is "salty", NOT CUTE."   😄

The next few days are going to be cold (in the 50s).  We should receive the Wallas stove tomorrow and Kip can put that in.  The boat is full of sand, so after the stove is installed, we need to clean the inside of the boat.

Doug asked if we had gone to the Sweet Cone Alabama ice cream shop.  We saw it but haven't stopped yet.  Tomorrow we will have to take a walk and get an ice cream treat and sweets!  Jeff would be proud of us!

  1. Welcome to the world of salt water and salt air. It needs a whole new level of cleaning, maintenance and prevention. D
