We had quite the night. Kip woke up at 1:30 a.m. wondering why certain things weren't working correctly (low battery. He started the generator and the engine on the boat. Once he confirmed things were charging (about an hour later), he shut the boat off after about one hour and left the generator run all night. The batteries were lower than we thought for the four days we stayed at Fairhope (no power hookup) waiting for the solar panel controller, so the solar panel only charged 1/2-day (it didn't charge the batteries completely). Neither of us slept the best and woke up at 5:20 a.m.
The day was cloudy and windy. Kip checked the weather and determined that we had a window of time to get to our next destination and beat the "small boat" warning of strong winds and 2' waves from the Coast Guard.
We left at 6:00 a.m. and started our 3.5-hour journey through Mobile Bay (which is fairly big water). It didn't start out to be too bad, but the waves started pushing us in all directions. I have never been seasick, but I was today. I sat on the floor to avoid the bouncing. My stomach was churning, and my mouth was watering. Kip had me sit on the back chair by the door, and that helped, and I eventually feel asleep. When I woke up an hour later feeling much better. We were on the intracoastal, and things were much calmer.
Another 1.5 hours and we got to Pirate's Cove. We are on the restaurant's dock, but we won't have power or any other amenities (like fuel or pump-out).
This sailboat was built in Texas, and he just got here with it. It has a dragon on the side of it and it is called Seeker. The link to his project can be found here.
We went to eat at the restaurant and brought ALL of our electronics and power cords to charge them up while we ate (so we didn't have to charge them in the boat with the generator).
Lots of dogs running around the restaurant, begging for a handout.
It is windy and cold with some rain. When we got back to the boat, we filled the generator with gas and try (again) to get our stove heater working. We will be watching the weather in the morning to determine if we will leave for the next destination or stay here.
