October 7, 2022

 Clinton, Iowa to Muscatine, Iowa

Kip tightened the alternator belt and checked the oil, ate breakfast, made our second pot of coffee and left by 8:00 a.m.  The water is low along this stretch of the river, and we have to call the marinas to make sure there is enough water depth for our boat before we pull in somewhere.

Right outside of the marina we saw a big boat stuck on a wing dam.  A wing dam is created to direct water into the channel and keep sediment out of the channel.  They are all over the river, but they are usually under the water but are marked on the maps.  This is an example of having a "very bad day".

Dredging the river channel.

Not sure what the Capt. had in mind here...!

The weather was cold and windy today.  We went through Locks 14 and 15/15A.  We pulled into Fairport Landing Marina and paid $25 to dock for the night.  We walked around, sat on the dock, ate dinner, walked around some more, and tucked in.

We traveled 56 miles today.  The heat will be turned on tonight, that's for sure.
