 Guttenburg, Iowa to Dubuque, Iowa

We got up early, had coffee, pumped out, and filled the water tank.  Left the marina around 7:20 a.m.

We went through Lock 11 and stopped at the Dubuque Marina to get diesel.  The path to the gas dock was very confusing and we struggled to find the right way through the markers, so we didn't get stuck in the mud.  The diesel pump end did not fit into our tank, so they had to get a funnel to fill our tank.
We figured out that, since Sunday, we only used 26 gallons of diesel (which is about 7.3 miles per gallon).  Not bad!

We planned on going through Lock 12, but there was a large barge ahead of us, so we stopped in Dubuque instead.  We pulled into the Ice Harbor, which is the Dubuque Municipal docks.  It was deserted and the gates out of the marina were locked with a code.  If we left the marina, we would have had to jump over a fence and onto a large electrical panel to get back inside.  Um....  not a good idea!

Another boat pulled in, and he said he was stranded for 3 hours trying to get the code to get back to his boat.  He ran into a worker that had the code and gave it to us.  We left the marina, walked to the casino and dropped a few coins, then walked on the Riverwalk (which is very nice).

We walked to the railroad bridge and saw that the trains got onto the bridge from a hole in the cliff.  We were there only a few minutes when a train came through.

We left the train tracks and went to the Shot Tower which was located down a hill.  The Shot Tower was how they made lead buckshot.  The dropped hot lead down the tower, through a grate, and landed in water where it turned the lead into pellets.

The Riverwalk had a sign that talked about getting to know each other.  When you pressed the button voices said "Hello" in different languages.  We aren't sure what this proved, but it was fun (Kip had to test it out).  We also stopped at the hotel and Kip played a couple of games to relieve his childhood.

We had dinner on the dock and played dominos.  It is cold at night, so we are excited to get to warmer weather.

Talk to you tomorrow!
