Green Turtle Marina, Grand Rivers, Kentucky

We decided to stay another night at Green Turtle marina.  We had a leisurely morning, which was very nice.  We broke our "eat at the boat" rule SEVERAL times today, starting with breakfast.

After breakfast we walked into Grand Rivers to mail the Alton Marina key back to them (in the hurry to leave the marina, we forgot to turn the key in).  If we don't mail it back, they will charge us $75.00, so we spent $10.60 to mail it from Grand Rivers Post Office.  The Postmaster helped us out, and when we were done, he said "It's not very often I meet another Kip."  It turns out his name was Kip too.

Grand Rivers is a 1/2 mile walk from the marina.  It is a really nice little town.  We walked around looking at fall decoration, memorial flags, and found the Lighthouse Marina.  There are mostly sailboats there, and the water is big and windy.  Perfect for sailing.  Along the way we saw:

Empty railroad cars on a track under a bridge.

Memorial flags

Miscellaneous musical instrument stations.

After our walk, we went to Craig's ice cream shop and had a "hurricane" (their version of a DQ blizzard).  Then we went and got groceries.  We brought our backpacks along to put the food in so we could walk back easier.  The manager of the store asked if we wanted a ride, and we told him no (he seemed busy, and we could easily carry what we purchased 1/2 mile).  On the way back to the marina a couple went by in a golf cart, turned around, and asked us if we wanted a ride (which we gladly accepted because they were heading back to the marina for their jackets).

We sat on the dock for a while and made plans for tomorrow, read, napped, and left the marina to go back to town to go to dinner at Patti's 1880 Settlement (I know, we are breaking the rule again, darn it)!  Patti's is a restaurant, gift shop, and other activities all set up in a type of compound.  People could walk around, take pictures, play on playgrounds, shop, mine for rocks, get married, and more all in one place.  We purchased a few items from the gift shop (Patti's meat rub, fudge) while waiting for our reservation.

They are known for their pork chops, and WOW, were they good!

They serve "Flower Pot Bread" which is bread baked in a plant pot and served with butter and strawberry butter.  The restaurant had cute decorations and friendly staff.  I would highly recommend it if you ever in the area.

I mentioned to the waitress that it was Kip's birthday, and some of the staff came over, brought him dessert, and had everyone in our section of the restaurant sing Happy Birthday to him.  I think he was embarrassed, but he got through it.

It was almost 9:00 when we walked back to the marina.  We walked 19,297 steps and had a very indulgent but very nice day.
