The drive wasn't bad, but parking turned into a project. Parking fees were between $40 and $200 a car. Yikes. We found a ramp that was $20 and the truck was able to make it through without hitting anything, so we parked there.
We walked about 10 blocks to the marina. Kip was giddy when he saw all of the boats on the docks. There were dinghies and up to 170' boats on display, and many vendors with boat products (flooring, floaties, freezers, insurance, travel, navigation products, etc.). Kip got a Diet Coke in a bottle, and it was $8.00 (plus a tip)!
We went in a few of the boats (Ranger Tugs, a Katy Krogen, and a Leopard Catamaran). We had never been inside of a catamaran before, and boy, are they nice! Lots of space and great layout. Many of the big boats were requiring an appointment to enter, so we didn't get to go inside the big boys. Bummer.
There were a couple of boats that really stuck out to us. I can't remember the names of some of the boats, but one was the Honey Fitz, which was used to transport secret service and heads of state by JFK and other presidents. The boat was purchased and restored and is quite lovely.
Some boats stuck out to us because they were HUGE!
Can you find me in this picture?
The skinny bow that never ends.
Check out these fenders!
There were so many people there, it was amazing - many different languages being spoken. And it's only Thursday. Wait until this weekend. We each got a "free" hat (Kip's from Leopard Catamarans and mine from Maori Yachts). We hiked the 10 blocks back to our truck and when we got to the pay booth, they said that the sign in front of the parking lot was wrong, the price is $40. The workers felt bad about all of the people who parked already, but their arguments to the powers that be did nothing. So much for our great parking spot.
Kip wants to stop at Sailfish Marina, so we took a slight detour and stopped to check it out. They have a wonderful ship store and restaurant. Also on Thursdays, they have an art fair in the parking lot, which was fun to check out. We had dinner at the restaurant and started for home. We decided that our little tug is perfect for us, but, if we won the lottery.... who knows.
The sunset from the truck driving back to Stuart was very pretty. Both of us wore our sunglasses and didn't bring our regular glasses, so we had to improvise as it got darker!
We nixed stopping for ice cream and listened to the Wild Hockey game back at the boat. We put in alot of walking miles today and look forward to relaxing tomorrow.
