Bashi Creek Anchorage, Alabama to Three Rivers Lake, Alabama

We left Bashi Creek at 6:00 a.m.  Yikes, that's early.  There is some fog in the air but no rain today.  It is going to be 85 degrees and sunny today.

Tow and Barge heading our way!

Coffeeville Lock and Dam (35') - our last Lock for this leg of our trip.

After we exit the Lock, we will be in the area where tides start occurring.  We will have to be careful where we anchor and always check what is happening.  We should also be in salt water fairly soon as well.

Kip likes to take pictures of bridges.

There are big and small deadheads (floating logs and trees) we did bump into a few today with no damage just clunked along the hull.  Others have not been so lucky and bent props, and another boat hit ground today.

The landscape is definitely changing.  Not very many houses and lots of sandy shores.

These logs are being sprayed with a giant sprinter.

Another bridge.

This is an old barge tie up.

We left at sunrise and didn't arrive to our destination until sunset.  It was a very long day for Kip.  He battled the sun shining in his face the entire way, deadheads, tows and barges, and sat in his captain's chair for over 10 hours and 84 miles.  I had it much easier (since I was not confident driving today).  I made breakfast, read, sat on the bow, sat on the back deck, took a nap, well, you get the picture.

Here is our spot for the night.  The moon is out, so it is not as dark as last night.  A couple other boats anchored at the mouth of this channel/lake, but we went back further.  The other boats drive their dinghy's and visit everyone who has anchored.  They were very envious of our spot (they can't go back where we went because their draft is much deeper than ours.  Our boat only needs 28" to go somewhere, and their boats need more like 4-5 feet).

Kip did a great job today.  Way to go Captain!

Here is the map of where we were today.  Notice the snake-like turns everywhere.  It is very tricky to get around tows and barges in a river like this, plus it takes longer to get to your destination.  We are a couple days away from Mobile, Alabama.  We hopefully will be able to meet up with our friends, Jeff and Laura, again on Wednesday.  They are staying in Alabama because there is a tropical storm that is supposed to be in Florida soon.  We hope not.

  2. Yes, we are due for a tropical storm, or cat 1 hurricane on Wed/Thurs. it will sweep across the state into the Gulf, and then make a sharp turn and then back up over Atlanta and into the Carolinas. This is a forecast track, Kip, so can change a bit. Be sure to keep monitoring the VHF weather channel. D
