Kip woke up early, probably because there were too many noises and movements in the water that he worried about. We left at 6:45 a.m.
We weren't sure we would make it to Paducah, so we planned on stopping on a dock several miles before Paducah. We turned onto the Ohio River, and our mph changed from 8 to 5 (lots of current going upriver). There are so many tows and barges here, that you have to pay really close attention.
We are heading to the only Lock and Dam today, the Omstead Lock. We are trying to keep track of what is happening, but we can't understand what people are saying on the radio. We got to the Lock, and the Lockmaster said he would take us with a tow that was going through, but we had to wait for a barge to get through first. About an hour and forty-five minutes later, we were through the Lock and on our way.
Leaving the Olmsted Lock.
Some sights along the Ohio River
A guy having the same day we did yesterday!
Dredging.
In Paducah we stopped at the National Quilt Museum. We arrived at 4:30 p.m. and they close at 5:00, so the lady let us in for free. There are quilts in there from the 1800s to current date, all different styles, very intricate and amazing pieces of art.
We are on the Paducah City Dock, and we are the smallest boat! We walked into town and got ice cream and cinnamon buns.
We traveled 47 miles today and drove for 8.5 hours. Tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 70s and we are heading to the Green Turtle Marina, which is on the north end of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.
